In the mid-60’s molybdenum was discovered on the south side of the Alice Arm inlet. Molybdenum improves the strength of steel at high temperatures and was used for missile and aircraft parts.

322.8 acres were acquired by the mining company to develop a community for its employees working in the molybdenum mine located just over five miles away. After a few years, and the expenditure of many millions of dollars, the town of Kitsault British Columbia was born.

Unfortunately the price of molybdenum went into a freefall less than two years after the town was completed. The mining company closed the mine and shut the town down. It has been sitting vacant ever since 1982.

We have compiled this collection of Kitsault archive photos, taken during the massive construction phase of the instant town during the early 1980's.
