In the mid-60’s molybdenum was
discovered on the south side of
the Alice Arm inlet. Molybdenum
improves the strength of steel
at high temperatures and was
used for missile and aircraft
parts. |
|
|
322.8 acres were acquired by the
mining company to develop a
community for its employees
working in the molybdenum mine
located just over five miles
away. After a few years, and the
expenditure of many millions of
dollars, the town of Kitsault
British Columbia was born.
|
| |
|
Unfortunately the price of
molybdenum went into a freefall
less than two years after the
town was completed. The mining
company closed the mine and shut
the town down. It has been
sitting vacant ever since 1982. |

We have compiled this collection of Kitsault
archive photos, taken during the massive
construction phase of the instant town
during the early 1980's. |
