One of the best kept secrets in British Columbia, the Kootenay region sprang to life in the 1800’s during the gold rush.  A connecting region between British Columbia and Alberta, this region is sheltered by four majestic mountain ranges (the Selkirks, Purcells, Monashees and the Rockies) and the landscape is dotted with picturesque lakes, lush valleys, and natural hot springs.

The mountains shelter and protect the multitudes of wildlife which flourishes in and around this region. The Northern Rockies are sometimes referred to as the “Serengeti of North America..” About half of BC’s elk population resides here, and white tailed deer, mule deer, and moose can be found roaming in this landscape. This area is a bird-watcher’s paradise, as over 60 per cent of the BC’s bird species can be found in the Kootenays.
