Prominent philanthropists Joe and Rosalie Segal list Point Grey mansion for $63 million

The air of Vancouver real estate is rarefied for ordinary purchasers, but prominent philanthropists Joseph and Rosalie Segal are reaching for the top of the luxury market with a $63-million asking price for their palatial Point Grey mansion.

That price would set a record for Metro Vancouver, according to a statement from Sotheby’s International Realty Canada.

Looking across the entire Lower Mainland, it was detached homes in Richmond Brighouse neighbourhood that saw the biggest increase in 2017 property assessments, though White Rock was the biggest community to see its average assessment shoot over the threshold for the B.C. Homeowner Grant.

Those results were pulled from data provided to Postmedia by property-data firm Landcor Data Corp., which compiled neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood changes in 2017 property valuations by the B.C.

Metro homeowners face tax hit from rising property assessments

Increases in property assessments pushed as many as 55,000 British Columbia homeowners over last year’s $1.1 million threshold for receiving the provincial homeowners grant on their property tax prompting a new call for the government to revise the program to cushion the impact of a hot real estate market.
